A breathtaking 1 to 2 day hiking experience through the iconic Boesmanskloof Trail, also known as the Greyton to McGregor hike, one of the Western Cape’s most celebrated mountain traverses. Linking the charming villages of Greyton and McGregor, this unforgettable route winds through the dramatic Riviersonderend Mountains, crossing rugged mountain passes, crystal clear streams, cascading waterfalls, deep rock pools and pristine fynbos landscapes rich in birdlife and indigenous flora.

The trail stretches approximately 14km one way and can be completed as a challenging full day hike or enjoyed as a more immersive overnight adventure with accommodation in either Greyton or McGregor. Along the way, hikers encounter spectacular viewpoints, steep gorges and the famous Oakes Falls, a refreshing mountain waterfall and natural pool that has become a highlight and rite of passage for many who tackle the trail.

Led by a knowledgeable local guide, guests gain deeper insight into the region’s fascinating history, geology and unique Cape Floral Kingdom ecology. The route follows ancient pathways through a protected conservation area home to proteas, ericas, sugarbirds, klipspringers, grey rhebuck and even the occasional elusive leopard.

Whether you are looking for a rewarding weekend escape, a scenic overnight trek or an authentic Overberg wilderness experience, the Boesmanskloof Trail offers the perfect balance of adventure, natural beauty and meaningful connection to the mountains. Ideal for nature lovers, photographers, trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts wanting to experience one of South Africa’s most iconic hikes.
